Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam: The Missile Man Who Touched Millions

 

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, known as the “Missile Man of India,” was not born into wealth or privilege. A Humble Beginning

Born in 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Kalam belonged to a poor family. His father was a boat owner, and his mother was a homemaker. From a young age, Kalam understood the value of hard work. To support his family, he sold newspapers after school, but he never let financial struggles stop him from dreaming big.

Despite the hardships, he was a brilliant student with a deep love for mathematics and science. His teachers always encouraged him, and he believed that education was his ticket to a better future.


A Dream Takes Flight

After completing his studies in aerospace engineering, Dr. Kalam joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He played a key role in developing India’s first satellite launch vehicle (SLV-III), which successfully placed the Rohini satellite into orbit.

His work didn’t stop there. He later joined DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), where he led India’s missile development program, earning him the title “Missile Man of India.”

Despite facing multiple failures in his career, he never gave up. He believed that “Failure is the first step towards success.”


Becoming the People’s President

In 2002, Dr. Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India. Instead of focusing only on politics, he inspired millions of young minds with his vision for a developed India. Even after his presidency, he continued teaching, motivating students, and sharing his wisdom.

His life’s motto was simple: “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams transform into thoughts, and thoughts result in action.”
